If you change the keyboard layout, do Shift keys work okay? If you connect the USB keyboard, do Shift keys work okay on that keyboard? If you open the Onboard virtual keyboard in installed Mint Xfce, do Shift keys on Onboard work okay? If you boot in Mint live session from USB/DVD installation media, do Shift keys work okay? I just have some suggestions on how to check where the problem is. Welcome to the Forums, David! I have no solution for your problem. Sorry if I'm leaving out any of the 'usual' details, and let me know what anyone might need to give advice - this is my first ever forum post. but I'm wondering if it's an unsolvable hardware problem. I really can't afford to buy a whole new computer right now. So I'm now working on Linux Mint 20.2 Xfce but I don't think that's the problem since it started in Ubuntu. And I can't figure out how to put a '$' in my Terminal, or put a in a 'confirm email box' that doesn't allow pasting for example, so it's hard to do much at all. It is not, so I'm stuck using CAPS LOCK and copy-pasting special characters, some of which are not that special so it's very annoying. so I thought maybe I could just install a whole new distro and maybe the problem would be solved. I was previously using Ubuntu 18.04, and was unable to get my SHIFT keys working. I've found some people having had this problem, but no solutions that have worked for me.
